If asked to choose the most memorable scene in the movie La La Land, many would immediately recall Mia’s final audition.
It was a moment when she was about to completely give up her dream of becoming an actress, after being turned away at countless auditions and seeing her self-written one-woman play end with a sparse audience and cold gossip. Unable to even cover the theater rental fee, she fled back to her hometown—until Sebastian arrived to extend a hand once more.
And so she faced the final audition room. Instead of handing her a script to act out, the casting director simply said, “Just tell us a story.” Mia didn’t try to look overly polished, nor did she package herself to suit the judges’ tastes. Instead, starting with the memory of her aunt who jumped barefoot into the Seine River in Paris, she calmly sang the story of her own failures, tears, and all the dreamers who refuse to give up.

Working on project sites, we often hear people say, “I’ll try once I’m perfectly prepared.”
This anxiety stems from the belief that every gap in the proposal must be filled before taking the first step, and every exception case and architectural risk must be fully controlled before introducing a service.
However, looking back coldly, a moment when all conditions are perfectly aligned never comes in reality. If execution is constantly postponed under the banner of perfection, we often lose opportunities or timing without even having tried.
In environments with countless uncontrollable variables, small, iterative attempts that validate through real-world trial exert far greater power than a flawless plan polished behind a desk.
No Failure Is Ever Wasted
The reason Mia was able to resonate so deeply at her final audition was not because her singing skills suddenly skyrocketed overnight.
The hours carved out while working at a coffee shop, the tears swallowed after rejections, the rock-bottom despair of her failed play—all those painful processes had accumulated inside her, creating a profound resonance that no one else could imitate.

We often try to cater to what others want to hear when being evaluated.
We craft fancy presentation slides, fill reports with grand technical jargon, and pretend as though everything is flawless. But real problems on the ground only fester when hidden behind sophisticated wrapping.
True trust and opportunity do not come from pretending to be flawless. When we calmly acknowledge our limits and failures and transparently reveal the struggles and trials that brought us here, we can truly move the hearts of colleagues and stakeholders.
The power Mia demonstrated in the audition room was not a manufactured performance, but the authenticity of facing her own time honestly.
